25 Years

written by Blackmore & Night

While travelling through the Ukraine on tour recently, a fan brought us a CD of old Balkan folk music they thought we would enjoy. On the CD we found a wonderful traditional sheperdic piece played on a Bulgarian bagpipe and sung in typical Ukrainian harmonic structure. Ritchie played it on the hardy gurdy and Candice plays the bag pipe chanter in the middle of the song. The traditional melody is still present, though ghost like in form. The song we now call 25 years is about a nightmare. Our psyche has such incredible powers. It has the ability to perceive, to receive, to haunt us and to chill us to the bone.  Dreams and nightmares are so intense that you can remember them years and years later…. Way after they seem to have faded. But the imprint they have on you is indelible. There is no defence from a nightmare, because you have created it and only you really know your own deepest fears. How do you save someone from themselves?

25 years since I woke up trembling
25 years since that terrible dream
I could see that the world was crumbling
Nothing is ever as it seems
Tried to run but my feet were frozen
Tried to scream but there was no sound
In my head voices echoing
Girl you should know better by now
*Long ago, Far away…
In the mist of yesterday
And you tried so hard to save me
How do you save someone from themselves
All those years, wasted wishes
Drowning in the wishing well…
25 years since I woke up trembling
25 years since that terrible dream
I could see that the world was crumbling
Nothing is ever as it seems

Olde Village Lanterne

written by Blackmore & Night

Inspired by the legend of Siegfried… this is a tale of true love.  We choose many paths each choice is what defines us and makes us what we are… what we are destined to be Although  sometimes the paths are hard to follow. . your conscience will always lead you down the one you should be on… If you choose to listen to it. Only in truth, will you retain nobility. Following your own truth, your heart… is your light in the dark Your own personal Olde Village Lanterne, It represents hope, family and love and the warmth of friendships.

Don’t shed a tear for me
I stand alone
This path of destiny
Is all my own
Once in the hands of fate
There is no choice
An echo on the wind
You’ll hear my voice…
Some choose to fall behind
Some choose to lead
Some choose a golden path
Laden with greed
But it’s the noble heart
That makes you strong
And in that heart, I’m with you all along…

*The olde village lanterne
Is calling me onward
Leading wherever I roam
The olde village lanterne
A light in the dark
Bringing me closer to home…
So when you think of me
Do so with pride
Honour and bravery
Ruled by my side
And in your memory
I will remain
I will forever be within the flame…
Now at the journey’s end
We’ve travelled far
And all we have to show
Are battle scars
But in the love we shared
We will transcend
And in that love, our journey never ends…

I Guess It Doesn’t Matter Anymore

written by Blackmore & Night

A song with a harder edge to it. Written about the story of Resurrection Mary and so many other spirits that still reside in our realm trying desperately to be remembered. In Chicago, Illinois  to this day there is a girl dressed all in white. She waits by the road to be picked up by a stranger. When someone does stop the car and offers her a ride she gets in and says nothing .. . Until she gets home.  At Resurrection Cemetery she asks the driver to poll over . . . and then she is gone. Many people have seen her She is well documented and the sightings go on still… The history behind her story is that Mary was on her way to the prom when she got hit by a car and was killed. She wears that dress still… In remembrance.  This song is for her.

Standing in the rain
The cold and angry rain
In a long white dress
A girl without a name
She stood beneath the light
Glowing like a candle bright
I guess it doesn’t matter anymore
I pulled along the side
And offered her a ride
Like the rolling mist she floated inside
As we pulled away
She had nothing to say
So I guess it doesn’t matter anymore
*I believe something’s can’t be explained
They are hidden in the mist and in the silver rain…
The road was long
It ran on
When I heard her singing her silent song
I knew the melody
From my memory
But I guess it Doesn’t Matter Anymore

Finally she spoke
Come pull off the road
Saying she was headin’ home
I turned and she was gone
I was all alone
So I Guess It Doesn’t Matter Anymore
As I turned away
No reason to stay
She had faded back into the grey
A whisper in the trees
You could hear it in the breeze
Say I Guess It Doesn’t Matter Anymore

World Of Stone

written by Blackmore & Night

Bring to me all of my arrows
Bring to me my crossbow too
I fear we might need them both
Before the night is through

Once a world of glittering hope
This world is not the world we knew
The only light left to shine
Is between me and you
*On our own
In a World of Stone
We are not alone
I had once believed in angels
They were everywhere I looked
A gentle hand guiding me
To give more than I took
But I have died a thousand times
Watching all these angels fall
Their lonely eyes haunt me still
We will avenge them all
*Bring me mead and bring me ale
To help us face this fight again
Good fortune will shine down on us
Together we will win
And they will never break our spirit
We will never turn and run
And we will rise stronger still
When we stand as one!

Faerie Queen

written by Blackmore & Night

Over on the hill
There grows a flower
Growing quicker still
More perfect by the hour
Deep within that flower
Is a tiny chair
All a-fringed with gold
The fairy queen sits there…
It is in her breath
That the wind does blow
It is in her heart
As pure as winter snow
It is in her tears
Crystal raindrops fall
And within her years
That she is in us all…
*Oh dark eyes
Help me see
Just one look
She is gone
Look on me
We are one
Fading with the setting sun…
As the willow bows
To her majesty
All the forest flowers
Love her mystery
Who would not admire
Who could not adore
Who does not desire
Who wishes to see more?

St. Teresa

Written by Joan Osborne, Eric Bazilian, Rob Hyman, Rick Chertoff

Sit down on the corner just a little climb
When I make my money got to get my dime
Sit down with her baby wind is full of trash
She bold as the street light dark and sweet as hash

Way down in the hollow leavin’ so soon
Oh St. Teresa higher than the moon
Reach down for the sweet stuff when she looks at me
I know any man sees you like I see
Follow down the side street movin’ single file
That’s where I’ll hold you, sleeping like a child

Way down in the hollow, leavin’ so soon
Oh, St. Teresa, higher than the moon

Just what I’ve been needin’, feel it rise in me
Every stone a story, like a rosary
Show me my Teresa, just a little climb
When I make my money, got to get my dime

Way down in the hollow, leavin’ so soon
Oh, St. Teresa, higher than the moon

Child In Time

written by Blackmore, Ritchie; Gillan, Ian; Glover, Roger David; Lord, Jon; Paice, Ian Anderson

Sweet child in time, you’ll see the line
The line that’s drawn between, good and the bad
See the blind man, he’s shooting at the world
The bullets flying and they’re taking toll

If you’ve been bad, Lord I bet you have
And you’ve not been hit by flying lead
You’d better close your eyes, you bow your head
Wait for the ricochet, yeah

Sweet child in time, time, you’ll see the line
The line that’s drawn between, good of us and the bad of us
See the blind man, shooting at the world
The bullets flying they’re killing everyone

If you’ve been bad, Lord I bet you have been bad
I bet you have been bad, you’ve not been hit by flying lead
You’d better close your eyes, you better bow your head
Wait for the ricochet, yeah

Streets of London

written by Ralph McTell

Have you seen the old man
In the closed-down market
Kicking up the paper,
with his worn out shoes?
In his eyes you see no pride
And held loosely at his side
Yesterday’s paper telling yesterday’s news

So how can you tell me you’re lonely,
And say for you that the sun don’t shine?

Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London
I’ll show you something to make you change your mind

Have you seen the old girl
Who walks the streets of London
Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags?
She’s no time for talking,
She just keeps right on walking
Carrying her home in two carrier bags.

Chorus

In the all night cafe
At a quarter past eleven,
Same old man is sitting there on his own
Looking at the world
Over the rim of his tea-cup,
Each tea last an hour
Then he wanders home alone

Chorus

And have you seen the old man
Outside the seaman’s mission
Memory fading with
The medal ribbons that he wears.
In our winter city,
The rain cries a little pity
For one more forgotten hero
And a world that doesn’t care

Chorus

Just Call My Name (I’ll Be There)

Written by Blackmore & Night

Something this right can never be wrong

So many nights I sat here waiting
There were times I couldn’t go on
Still my heart was anticipating
It made me be strong
Made me hold on…
There were some calling me crazy
I’ve been accused of being naïve
But I don’t need no one to save me
Cause I got you, you make me believe
*I’ll Be There in the night when you need me
Just call my name
I’ll be there close your eyes and you’ll see me
Just Call My Name
I don’t need to know the answers
I don’t want to understand
We were born to take the chances
I know the truth when you hold my hand…
I had waited a lifetime lost on the open sea
Praying for an angel to be sent to me
Now the night don’t last forever
Every moment is a song
Cause we face the night together

Olde Mill Inn
Written by Blackmore & Night

Down at the Olde Mill Inn
We’ll laugh and dance and sing
We’ll drink all day and Bill will pay
Down at the Olde Mill Inn
Down at the Olde Mill Inn
The ships are sailing in,
We’ll drink a toast with Judy our host
Down at the Olde Mill Inn

* The moon is full, the bar is too, when we come to town
We’ll have a beer, cause Jerry’s here, so spread the cheer around….

Down at the Olde Mill Inn
The bartenders name is Kim
And with a smile she’ll serve in style
Down at the Olde Mill Inn…

Down at the Olde Mill Inn
We’ll laugh and dance and sing
We’ll drink all day and Bill will pay
Down at the Olde Mill Inn

Down at the Olde Mill Inn
We’ll laugh and dance and sing
We’ll drink and play the hours away…
Down at the Olde Mill Inn..

Windmills

Written by Blackmore & Night

Far from the worn path of reason
Further away from the sane
He battles his shadows and demons
Fighting to light the way
And the dust and the dirt cloud his vision
Onward he rides unafraid
He fights the good fight for good reason
A star that refuses to fade
Still he braves his path…
Windmills only laugh
She was wounded and wild when he found her
He saw her through child’s eyes
She fell for the spell he was under
Each day a brand new surprise
And she watches with strange curiosity
She wants so much to believe
Hoping to break the chains of reality
Dying to set herself free
*
Though he may appear tattered and broken
His clothes are shabby and bare
Still he glows like the flame of a candle
With passion of one who still cares
There was always a rhyme to the reason
Peering out from tired eyes
The truth finally came in treason
So wrong, but so justified…
So wrong but so justified…
Windmills close their eyes…

Street Of Dreams

Written by Blackmore & Turner

I heard the sound of voices in the night
Spellbound there was someone calling
I looked around no one was in sight
Pulled down I just kept on falling
Ive seen this place before
You were standing by my side
Ive seen your face before tonight
Maybe I just see what I want it to be
I know its a mystery
Do you remember me on a street of dreams
Running through my memory
On the street of dreams

There you stood a distant memory
So good like we never parted
Said to myself I knew youd set me free
And here we are right back where we started
Soemthings come over me
And I dont know what to feel
Maybe this fantasy is real
Now I know I see what I want it to be
But its still a mystery

Do you remember me on the street of dreams
Running through my memory
On the street of dreams
You are on every face I see
On the street of dreams

Solo

Tell me have you always been
On the street of dreams
Will we ever meet again my friend
Do you know just what it meand to be
On the street of dreams
Never know just who youll see do ya
On the street of dreams
You can be who you want to be oh yeah
I can hear you calling me
I can feel you haunting me
Haunting me

Once In A Garden

Written by Candice Night

Once In A Garden
Where dreams could be found
Once children’s laughter
Was the only sound
The butterflies kissed our hair
Once in a Garden
I still see us right there
Once on a hilltop
Beneath the old tree
Swings made of tires
Made us feel so free
No one had worries, troubles were few
Once in a Garden
Where innocence rang pure and true
Hours of make believe
Playing in the sun
Dreaming with wonder
What would we become
My best friend
Holding my hand
We’d run by the sea
Through castles of sand
Once in a forest
Just like Robin Hood
Flowers were our play mates
We only saw good
In everything, be it right or wrong
Once in a Garden – I still can hear our song…

Call It Love

Written By Candice Night

I’m standing here
Watching the waves break on the sand
Holding your hand
And wondering if there was a time
When I felt more comfortable
I could conquer the world
With you by my side
We’ve gone down
So many lonely roads
Searched for what we’d known was
Right around the corner and I knew
From the time I saw your face
From our first embrace
That you were the one…
We could call it luck
We could call it fate
We could call it heart’s desire
We could call it a dream
Even though we’re wide awake
Let’s Just Call It Love
I feel like
I’ve known you my whole life
That every day and night
Was made just for us
I don’t know what I ever did before
You walked through my door
And changed my whole life…
